This course is only available in Arkansas.
Description of Course: During the course, junior instructors will
receive training in the following state
mandated areas; required
preparatory training (50 hours), class attendance
(100 hours), conducting a
theory class (50 hours), conducting practical
classes in cosmetology (300
hours), methods of keeping student records (10
hours), training in subjects
which the individual teacher-trainee may be
deficient, or to the practice
of Cosmetology (90 hours).
Course Goals/Objectives: Junior instructor training is intended to
qualify the student to teach all phases
of Cosmetology, and to also
prepare the junior instructor for the Arkansas
State Board of Cosmetology
licensing examination.
Content of Units of
Instruction:
I. 1st Term 10 Credits (300 Hours)
A. INS 1 Introduction to Teaching Skills 1 Credit (30 hours)
1. Teaching of Theory and Practical Operations
2. Selecting subject matter for class lecture
3. Preparing class lecture
4. Conducting Review of subject taught
5. Preparing and grading examinations
B. INS 2 Teaching Skills and Presentation Techniques I 2 Credits (60 hours)
1. Junior instructors will begin mastering the practical teaching skills
needed to facilitate
Cosmetology training.
2. Junior instructors will attend classes, both lecture and
lecture/demonstration,
conducted by a licensed Instructor to observe teaching methods
utilized.
C. INS 3 Teaching Skills and Presentation Techniques II 2 Credits (60 hours)
1. Junior instructors will continue mastering the practical teaching skills
needed to
facilitate Cosmetology training.
2. Junior instructors will continue attending classes, both lecture and
lecture/demonstration, conducted by a licensed Instructor to observe
teaching
methods utilized.
D. INS P-10 Junior Instructor Practicum 5 Credits (150 hours)
1. Junior instructors will begin conducting lecture and
lecture/demonstration classes
under the direct supervision of a licensed instructor.
2. Junior instructors will begin assisting Cosmetology students with
practical exercises
under the direct supervision of a licensed Instructor.
3. Junior instructors will study and practice the correct methods of
maintaining student
records.
II. 2nd Term 10
Credits (300 hours)
A. INS 4 Teaching
Skills 1 Credit (30 hours)
1. Junior instructors will cover the methods used to both teach and
demonstrate practical
operations associated with Cosmetology training.
2. Junior instructors will be evaluated by a licensed instructor
regarding practical skills
needed to adequately train Cosmetology students; at this time any
areas that have
not been mastered will be addressed.
B. INS 5 Advanced Teaching Skills and Presentation Techniques 2 Credits (60
Hours)
1. Junior instructors will continue observing licensed Instructors
facilitate lecture and
lecture/demonstration classes focusing on methods used and
presentation of the material.
2. Junior instructors will prepare and present a complete lesson plan
to the Supervisory
Instructor for evaluation.
C. INS P-11 Senior Teaching Practicum 7 Credits (210 hours)
1. Junior instructors will continue facilitating lecture and
lecture/demonstration classes
under direct supervision of a licensed Instructor.
2. Junior instructors will continue assisting Cosmetology students with
practical
exercises under direct supervision of a licensed Instructor.
3. Junior instructors will continue their study and practice of the
correct methods of
maintaining student records.
Instructional Methods: The teaching methods utilized to facilitate Junior
instructor training includes, but
are not limited to: lecture, and
lecture/demonstration incorporating various
teaching aids to increase student
comprehension.
Grading Procedures: Students will be evaluated throughout the course
using a variety of tests.
A written evaluation will be given
upon completion of each theoretical
chapter. A numerical grade will be
calculated and a letter grade will be
assigned. The assignment is as
follows: 90-100 =A
80-89
=B
70-79
=C
69
and Below = Failure
Practical evaluations will be given upon completion of
practical exercises.
There will also be an evaluation given at the end of
each term. A
numerical grade will be calculated based on the
accuracy of completed
tasks.
