Cosmetology Course
Cosmetology Course Junior Instructor Course Tuition: Cosmetology FAQ About PCEC Pictures

 

 

This course is only offered in Arkansas.

Description of Course:                During training, students will receive instruction in the following state mandated           
                                                   areas; hygiene and sanitation (80 hours), related science (120 hours), hairdressing    
                                                   (1000 hours),manicuring (100 hours), cosmetic therapy (100 hours), salesmanship     
                                                    and shop management (50 hours), and salon deportment (50 hours).

Course Goals/Objectives:           This course is intended to prepare students to pass the Arkansas State Board of        
                                                    Cosmetology licensing examination and to enable students to enter the workplace      
                                                    with the skills needed to succeed as a professional.

I.  1st Term 25 Credits (750 Hours)                                                
A.  COS 1 Introduction to Cosmetology 1 Credit (30 Hours)

B.  COS 2 Introduction to Haircutting and Hairstyling 3 Credits (90 Hours)                     
                1.        Infection Control
                2.        Properties of the Hair and Scalp
                3.        Shampooing, Rinsing, Conditioning
                4.        Principles of Hair Design
                5.        Haircutting
                6.        Wet Hairstyling
                7.        Thermal Hairstyling

C.  COS 3 Introduction to Chemical Services 2 Credits (60 Hours)

                3.        Chemical Hair Relaxing

D.  COS 4 Introduction to Specialty Services 2 Credits (60 Hours)

E.  COS P-10 Junior Practicum 17 Credits (510 Hours)                        
               1.  Initially students will practice on mannequins and   classmates the theory and techniques learned             
                     in other courses of Term 1 until competency is demonstrated.
               2. Once competency is demonstrated in skill or technique the student will be assigned to provide                   
                     these services to paying patrons in the schools clinic.
               3.  Students will participate in school-based competitions.

D.  COS 8 Specialty Services II 2 Credits (60 Hours)

E.  COS P-11 Senior Practicum 17 Credits (510 Hours)                        
            1.  Students will continue to practice principles and  techniques learned in other courses in Term 2 on              
                   mannequins and classmates until competency is demonstrated.                                                                   
             2.  Once competency is demonstrated in skill or technique the student will be assigned to provide these           
                   services to paying patrons in the schools clinic.                                                                   
            3.  Students will continue to practice principles and techniques learned in other courses in Term 1 on
                 mannequins, classmates and paying patrons in the schools clinic.                                                                 
             4.  Students will participate in school-based competitions.

Grading Procedures:                Students will be evaluated throughout the course using a variety of tests.  A written       
                                                 evaluation will be given upon completion of each theoretical chapter.  A numerical         
                                                 grade will be calculated and a letter grade will be  assigned.  The assignment is as        
                                                 follows:         
                                                                                90-100 =A
                                                                                 80-89 =B
                                                                                 70-79 =C
                                                                                 69 and Below = Failure
                                             Practical evaluations will be given upon completion of practical exercises.  There will        
                                              also be an evaluation given at the end of each term.  A numerical grade will be                 
                                              calculated based on the accuracy of completed tasks.

Instructional Methods:             The teaching methods used to facilitate training in Cosmetology include, to Teach the    
                                                but are not limited to; lecture, and lecture/demonstration incorporating various teaching
                                                aids to increase student comprehension.
